I just got back from a trade show. Three days, a thousand business cards, and enough coffee to fuel a small country.
So… are trade shows actually worth it?
THE HONEST PROS:
– You meet people face-to-face (weird, I know)
– Handshakes still matter, apparently
– You get real feedback on your pitch in real-time
– Sometimes you find a vendor/partner you wouldn’t have found online
– It’s harder to ghost someone you met in person
THE HONEST CONS:
– You’re paying booth fees + travel + time for… conversations that could’ve been Zoom calls?
– 90% of the people walking your booth aren’t qualified buyers
– Everyone’s tired and trying to escape
– Your feet hurt
– You can do outreach for 1/10th the cost
THE REAL TAKE:
Trade shows aren’t dead, but they’re not a replacement for your actual sales strategy. They’re a complement.
Go if:
– Your industry actually gathers there (yes for packaging, pharma, food)
– You’re not relying on it as your only lead gen
– Your team can follow up (and actually does)
Skip if:
– You’re hoping strangers will magically become clients
– You’re not going to do the real work after
The booth is the beginning. The follow-up is the actual business.
Real question though:
Are trade shows worth it for you? Are they dead or still valuable? Drop your take below.
